SILEX Fiberglass Windows & Doors

Benefits of Fibreglass

Discover why fiberglass is the material of choice for high-performance windows and door by SILEX

Why Choose SILEX Fiberglass?

SILEX manufactures every window and door using high-grade pultruded fibreglass, delivering exceptional strength, energy efficiency, and long-term climate performance. Designed specifically for Canadian conditions, our products resist warping, expansion, and performance loss over time.

SILEX products are trusted across a wide range of applications:

• Custom homes and luxury residences
• Multi-family and mid-rise developments
• Commercial and mixed-use buildings
• Institutional and architectural projects

Our windows and doors provide the strength, efficiency, and longevity required for today’s high-performance buildings.

BUILT FOR PRAIRIE CONDITIONS

Windows Designed Around Canadian Climate

Engineered to withstand extreme temperature swings from -40°C to +40°C. Our architectural-grade fiberglass frames deliver industry-leading thermal insulation and lifetime structural integrity.

Thermal Performance

Advanced triple-glazing options engineered to lock in heat and block freezing prairie winds.

Prairie Stability

High-density frames expand and contract at the same rate as glass to prevent seal failures.

Extreme Durability

Resists peeling, fading, and warping under intense UV exposure and heavy winter blizzards.

Architectural Glazing

Warm-edge spacer technology eliminates interior condensation and frost build-up.

The Pultrusion Process is a manufacturing technique used to produce fiberglass windows and other composite materials.

What is Fiberglass?

Fiberglass is one of the most durable and dimensionally stable materials available for window and door systems. It resists warping, expansion, and seal failure caused by temperature extremes, ensuring consistent performance over time.

  • Unmatched Durability: Resistant to rot, corrosion, and insect damage, our frames maintain their shape and integrity for decades.
  • Superior Energy Efficiency: Up to 250% better insulation than aluminum and significantly lower thermal expansion than vinyl, reducing energy costs and enhancing comfort.
  • Exceptional Strength: Our fiberglass frames are nearly 10 times stiffer than vinyl, allowing for larger window sizes and stunning views.
  • Eco-Friendly: Made with recycled content and low VOCs, our frames have a smaller environmental footprint than other materials.

Performance Metric
SILEX Fiberglass
Vinyl (PVC)
Aluminum
Stability
Match glass rate. Zero warping under deep freeze.
High thermal expansion. Subject to bowing.
Moderate expansion. Requires expansion joints.
Conductivity
Extremely low. Exceptional thermal boundary.
Low conductivity, but hollow chambers sag.
Highly conductive. Requires thermal breaks.
Openings
Structural strength supports slim, massive panels.
Limited dimensions. Bulky frame profiles.
Excellent sizing but suffers from weight limits.
Resistance
Corrosion, rot and chemical proof. No UV decay.
Slight cold embrittlement. UV exposure yellowing.
High rust resistance; prone to condensation moisture.
Maintenance
Virtually zero. Highly stable structure over decades.
Low maintenance. Corner seals require monitoring.
Requires periodic powder-coat and finish inspection.

How SILEX Fiberglass Windows Are Made

SILEX fiberglass windows are manufactured using a high-precision process called pultrusion, which creates incredibly strong and stable window components.

It starts with continuous strands of glass fibers, known as roving, which are pulled through a resin bath to coat them with a durable, weather-resistant polymer. These fibers are layered with strand mat and surfacing veil to enhance strength, surface quality, and long-term performance.

The saturated material is then drawn through a heated die, where it is shaped and cured at high temperatures. This hardens the material into solid, dimensionally accurate profiles. Pullers keep the line moving at a consistent speed, and a cut-off saw trims the finished lineals to the required lengths

Durability and Longevity

High Dimensional Stability

The coefficient of expansion/contraction of pultruded fiberglass material is extremely low and almost identical to that of float glass. The low thermal expansion rate means tighter seals against weather and longer lasting. Vinyl expands at over 7x this rate.

Energy Efficiency

High Energy Efficiency

Pultruded Fiberglass profile insulates better than any of the traditional window and door materials. The thermal conductibility ratio is 500x less than aluminum. Insulating the frame and sash components reduces the conductivity even further, allowing for the creation of some of the most energy efficient window and door systems.

Future of Performance

Environmentally Friendly

Fiberglass Strings are made mostly from silica sand (sustainable natural resource), the lineal manufacture process consume the least embodied energy when compared to other common window frame materials such as Aluminum and PVC.
