Sechelt Municipal Hall & Library: A Coastal Transformation
Sechelt is aptly known as the “heart of the sunshine coast.” Nestled between the Salish Sea and the Sechelt Inlet, our community is defined by its stunning coastal vistas and a deep connection to outdoor recreation. As our population grows, so does the demand for the civic services that keep Sechelt thriving.
project overview
The District of Sechelt is embarking on a vital building remedial project for the Municipal Hall and Library. This project focuses on essential upgrades to the building envelope to ensure the longevity, safety, and efficiency of these core community spaces.
Key Scope of Work:
Building Envelope Remediation: Comprehensive repairs to the exterior structure to protect against the coastal elements.
Window System Replacement: Removal of aging aluminum windows and installation of high-performance fiberglass window systems. Fiberglass offers superior thermal insulation and durability in our marine environment.
Why Now?
The Municipal Hall is currently facing significant maintenance challenges. Our goal is to address these growing pains with a strategic, phased approach.
By prioritizing these specific remedial works now, staff can avoid costly “temporary fixes” that would otherwise be discarded if the District proceeds with a full-scale expansion in the future. We are choosing to invest wisely today to protect the community’s assets for tomorrow.
The Path to This Decision:
2022 Facility Needs Assessment: Revealed the extent of repairs required for Municipal Hall and highlighted that the District is rapidly outgrowing its current footprint.
June 2024 Space Needs Assessment: An architectural consultant confirmed that the Sechelt Library is significantly undersized for the population it serves.
