SILEX Fiberglass Windows & Doors
Originally built during the Great Depression, Queenston School is one of Winnipeg’s last historical schools from that era still standing today. Queenston School was designed by local architects George Northwood and Cyril Chivers, and completed in September 1931 by the construction firm of Hazelton and Walin.
SILEX was proud to be part of the building’s thoughtful retrofit. We help preserving the school’s historic character while bringing it up to modern energy performance standards. Our custom fiberglass windows, including awning-style operable windows, were carefully designed to complement the building’s traditional architecture dated back to 1931, while improving thermal efficiency and durability.
This project reflects a balance of heritage and innovation—retaining architectural authenticity while lowering energy costs and reducing environmental impact for generations to come.
Highlights:
Custom fiberglass frames to match original window design
Energy-efficient glazing with enhanced insulation
Awning windows for modern ventilation needs
Heritage-sensitive installation approach
Designed for Winnipeg’s challenging climate
